Solo Retreats for Individuals and Couples at Sky Meadow

A solo retreat is a time to be alone in a safe setting where you can go inward and find the stillness that is so often obscured by the demands of the world.  When our retreat barn is not occupied by a group, it is available for individuals or couples for self-directed retreats.  This could be time for you to deepen your relationship with yourself or with nature, or for a couple to connect more deeply with each other.

The retreat is at the end of a dirt road in Vermont’s beautiful northeast kingdom.  This is a very rural area and you cannot see any other houses or hear any traffic noises from our property.  120 acres of land surround the barn including forests, meadows, ponds, walking trails, and a stunning open hilltop overlooking the Green Mountains.  There are several beautiful meditation huts and a large Tipi on the property for individual meditation practice, and a large covered pavilion with a fire pit for music, dance, or ceremony.

Each person or couple has their own private room in our spacious retreat barn with three simple vegetarian meals offered daily. Inside the barn is a large open floor for yoga or gentle movement and a dining area with tables.  There is a cozy corner with couches and rocking chairs and a large covered back porch area overlooking our sheep pasture and pond. The main floor of the barn is kept in silence with talking allowed only in the lower bed rooms or outdoors.

Solo retreats for individuals or couples are available  (2 night minimum)
mid-April through mid- October between 5:00 Sunday evening and 9:00 Friday morning,
and
some weekends as noted on our retreat schedule

The  cost for a private room with shared bath and three meals/day is:
$225/individual  or  $425/couple  for two nights,
$112/person or  $212 couple for each additional night  - 10% discount for 5 nights or longer

We have one Solo retreat room with a private bath in our retreat barn
available February through November.

The cost for this room and three meals is $300/individual
or  $500/couple for two nights.
$150/person or $250/couple for each additional night

The generous meals provided include fresh organic home-made vegetarian food with many of the vegetables and fruits grown here in our gardens. Tea, honey, milk and fruit are available throughout the day.  The retreat barn has wireless internet access, and a land-line phone for receiving or making emergency calls with a calling card. (802 533 9250) Cell phones usually do not work here. We encourage you to use this retreat time to slow down, simplify, and go inward. To help this process, we ask that you limit activities such as talking, reading, writing, internet use, and eating to only what is necessary.
You can bring your own coffee if you need it.  We ask that you do not bring alcohol, tobacco, meat or fish, recreational drugs, pets, or camping vehicles, and that you do not use your car or phone while on retreat, unless there is an important need. We supply comfortable beds with blankets and pillows, and you bring your own linens or sleeping bag, towel, and pillow case.
Additional support is available for solo retreats in the form of daily silent group meditation periods, and private sessions with Miles which focus on meditation and spiritual growth, or relationship skills. Miles has practiced Buddhist Insight Meditation since 1976 and lead retreats at Sky Meadow and elsewhere since 2000.  His teaching style emphasizes present moment experience rather than formal doctrine or theory, and he is familiar with a variety of different spiritual paths.                                 Individual meditation instruction and support is offered on a donation basis.

Miles is also a professional mediator with ten years of experience in divorce and family mediation.  He has taught interpersonal communication skills and worked with couples since 1990, and is the author of Conscious Communication- How to Establish Healthy Relationships and Resolve Conflict Peacefully while Maintaining Independence,  published by Langdon St. Press in 2010.  (www.LanguageofConnection.com to order)  Three hour sessions for couples are offered on a self-selected sliding fee scale of  $150 - $200 per session.

Solo Retreat Testimonials

I used to strap on my backpack and wander into desert canyons and mountain wilderness to find the solitude, beauty and spiritual renewal I craved. It seems to me there is a vitality, strength and wholeness to wild land that is rarely found elsewhere. But I have sometimes felt this where land has been lovingly tended, its spirit recognized, respected and appreciated. I found this sacred presence at Sky Meadow.

Not only a haven for my soul, the Center gave me shelter in comfort and quietness, free of others’ expectations or demands, and gently supported my solo retreat. And the food-!  Such splendid, life-filled, utterly delicious food! The love and life brought to the table in the form of food is remarkable. These generous, gorgeous meals nurtured me in ways I can’t begin to describe. Suffice it to say, others’ cooking (including my own) pales in comparison

Thank you Cella; thank you Miles. My heart has a new home; I can hardly wait to come back.
